Italy to Regularly Recruit Bangladeshi Workers Through Language and Skills Training

Italy will organise a special programme in Dhaka next month to recruit workers from Bangladesh through legal channels after training them in Italian and specific job skills, the Italian Embassy has said.
Under the programme, interested workers will receive training in Italian, the country’s civic culture and social customs, as well as the practical and technical skills required for employment. The Italian government plans to arrange jobs for them in Italy after the training.
Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro disclosed the plan during a courtesy meeting with Mahdi Amin, adviser to the Prime Minister and spokesperson for his office, at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Tuesday.
The ambassador outlined the training programme in line with the Bangladesh government’s emphasis on third-language education and its goal of sending skilled workers abroad. He said the initiative would be launched next month.
Welcoming the initiative, Mahdi Amin said sending skilled workers to the international labour market and ensuring third-language education for young people were among Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s top priorities. He expressed hope that the programme would help develop a skilled workforce and strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
The meeting also covered bilateral cooperation and partnership. The Italian ambassador praised Bangladesh’s role in United Nations peacekeeping missions. He also reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to working together as trusted friends and partners to address challenges and explore new opportunities.
The two sides also discussed people-to-people ties. Around 250,000 Bangladeshi nationals currently live permanently in Italy, the meeting noted. Their remittances make a significant contribution to Bangladesh’s foreign exchange earnings.
They also discussed ways to expand legal migration opportunities for Bangladeshis and discourage irregular migration. The two sides exchanged views on increasing the number of visas issued to Bangladeshi students and simplifying the visa process.
Federico Zamparelli, Deputy Head of Mission at the Italian Embassy in Dhaka, was also present.
