Tight Security in Jaintapur During Durga Puja, Special Police Surveillance at 20 Mandaps

Police have instituted special security measures across 20 Durga Puja mandaps in Jaintapur upazila to ensure peaceful celebrations. Authorities confirmed that dedicated police teams, daily mobile patrols, and continuous surveillance will remain active until the immersion of idols.
The details were outlined during a views-exchange meeting with local Hindu community leaders and puja committee representatives at the Jaintapur Model Police Station Hall on Saturday afternoon (October 3).
Chaired by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Molla, the session was moderated by Inspector (Investigation) Al Amin Mir.
The meeting was informed that rituals across the 20 mandaps, spread across six unions, will begin with Sasthi on October 16 and conclude with Bijoya Dashami on October 21.
Mandap representatives detailed their preparations and requested regular patrols, continuous security, repair of faulty CCTV cameras, and installation of new units where necessary.
Reaffirming Bangladesh’s tradition of communal harmony, OC Mahbubur Rahman assured attendees that maximum security measures have been deployed for a peaceful festival.
Each mandap will host an assigned police contingent alongside regular daily mobile patrols across all six unions. Visiting officers will record their inspections in registers maintained at every site.
The OC urged immediate reporting of any disruptions or suspicious activities via designated local hotline numbers or the national emergency helpline 999.
Traffic management plans have been arranged for mandaps adjacent to highways, while border-area committees were advised to deploy extra volunteers and coordinate with police.
Organizers were advised to regulate temporary stalls around venues to prevent congestion and to arrange backup generators for lighting to reduce grid load.
Committees must notify police prior to moving idols so escort security can be provided if needed. Police presence will remain active through the final immersion ceremonies.
Each mandap was instructed to submit volunteer lists to the police station and temporarily pause loudspeakers and drums during call to prayers and Islamic prayer times. Assistance for CCTV installation and maintenance was also assured.
Prominent local leaders attended the meeting, including Pradeep Kumar Sharma (Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Kalyan Front), Yadav Chandra Biswas (Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad), Nibaran Chandra Das (Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad), Shankar Das (Jaintapur Puja Udjapan Front), along with Ratan Dey, Badal Moni Dutta, Dulal Chandra Deb, Pranatha Kanta Deb, and former upazila vice-chairperson Joymati Rani.
Community leaders commended the police department’s proactive measures, requested sustained oversight throughout the festival, and invited officers to visit the venues.
The session concluded with Jaintapur Model Police soliciting full public cooperation to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and festive Durga Puja 2026.
