Japan’s Ambassador Stresses Development Cooperation to Strengthen Strategic Partnership

Japan’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Mr. Saida Shinichi has highlighted the changing role of development cooperation. He said this role can deepen and strengthen the strategic partnership between Bangladesh and Japan. He shared these views at a seminar in Dhaka.

JICA organized the seminar on September 17. The seminar was titled “Development Cooperation in a Complex Global Environment: Perspectives on Japan’s ODA and Future Partnerships.” State Minister for Public Administration Mr. Md. Abdul Bari MP attended the event as chief guest.

Professor Mr. Nakanishi Hiroshi from the Graduate School of Law at Kyoto University presented the keynote paper. A panel discussion followed this presentation. Representatives from the Bangladesh government, JICA, and academia joined the discussion. They exchanged views on Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) and future partnerships.

In his speech, Ambassador Mr. Saida described Japan’s long history of ODA in the post-war period. He noted that this aid supported development across South and Southeast Asian countries. He also mentioned Japan’s contributions to Bangladesh’s development since independence.

The Ambassador said development cooperation plays an important and changing role. He added that this role can help deepen and strengthen the strategic partnership between Bangladesh and Japan.
