Law and Order Must Improve to Ensure Investment and Development: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh has warned that failure to restore law and order quickly will hamper new domestic and foreign investment and undermine the government’s overall development plans. The party said the recent deterioration in law and order could erode investors’ confidence and willingness to make new investments.
Party leaders made the remarks at a meeting of the party’s Khas Committee held at Jamia Hossainia Arzabad in Mirpur, Dhaka, at 8am on Monday (October 19). The meeting was chaired by party president Maulana Ubaidullah Faruq.
At the meeting, Jamiat leaders said that, according to information published in the media recently, 151,596 cases had been registered in the country over the past nine months. They added that many other incidents of crime had occurred without being reported to police stations.
They warned that if the fragile law and order situation persisted, it would seriously undermine not only public safety but also overall economic activity and a stable investment climate.
They further noted that unless visible and effective measures were taken immediately to improve law and order, investment could stagnate. This, in turn, would have a severely negative impact on the implementation of the government’s planned development projects.
The leaders strongly urged the government to take swift action to restore normalcy in law and order, ease public concerns and strengthen the national economy.
According to sources at the party’s central office, those present at the meeting included senior vice-president Maulana Abdur Rob Yusufy, vice-presidents Maulana Junaid Al-Habib, Maulana Nazmul Hasan Qasemi and Maulana Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, secretary-general Maulana Manzurul Islam Afendi, senior joint secretary-general Maulana Bahauddin Zakaria, and organising secretary Maulana Lokman Mazhari, among other senior central leaders.
