Japan to Start Recruiting Bangladeshi Workers from April 1

Japan will begin accepting Bangladeshi workers from April 1, 2027, under a new employment agreement signed between Bangladesh and Japan.
The agreement, known as the Memorandum of Cooperation on Employment Skills Development (ESDP-MOC), will initially remain in effect for five years and will automatically be extended for another five years.
The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment announced the development in a statement on Monday (October 19).
According to the ministry, the agreement was formally signed on October 17 following nearly a year of efforts by the two countries.
On behalf of Bangladesh, the secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment signed the agreement. Japan was represented by officials from its Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and National Police Agency.
The ministry described the agreement as a significant milestone in expanding overseas employment opportunities for Bangladesh.
It is expected to create new job opportunities for Bangladeshi workers in Japan while helping protect their rights and ensure their benefits.
The agreement will initially remain in effect for five years and will then be automatically extended for another five years, bringing its total duration to 10 years.
Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury said the agreement would ensure the highest possible level of protection for workers and strengthen cooperation between the two countries in sending and receiving workers.
He added that working in Japan would help Bangladeshi citizens develop their skills, earn higher salaries and gain opportunities for long-term residence in the country.
