Malaysia’s labour market reopens

Malaysia’s labour market has opened again for Bangladeshis. After a long closure, Goodness Services Limited (RL-2068) was first given 28 demand letters. This time, the Malaysian High Commission has approved a demand letter for 26 workers for At-Taqwa Overseas Limited (RL-1703).
It is learned that, in the first phase, the Bangladesh High Commission attested a demand letter for recruiting 28 Bangladeshi workers for Goodness Services Limited (RL-2068), in response to demand from NSK Trade City, a Malaysian supermarket chain. Now, in the second phase, the High Commission has attested a demand letter for 28 workers. This approval has been given to At-Taqwa Overseas Limited (RL-1703) in response to demand from Sharikat Pernigaan Monja, a Malaysian contracting firm.
Mohammad Hossain, manager of At-Taqwa Overseas Limited (RL-1703), confirmed the matter. The Malaysian High Commission has also confirmed it.
Earlier, the entry of Bangladeshi workers into Malaysia was shut off at the end of May 2024. At that time, the Malaysian government stopped the entry of new workers in response to irregularities in recruitment, excessive costs and various allegations.
After taking office, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stressed, at a special meeting on overseas employment, the need to reopen closed and shrunken labour markets. To that end, he also visited Malaysia. During the visit, he discussed resuming the recruitment of workers from Bangladesh with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
In continuation of this, Malaysia has again opened the way for recruiting Bangladeshi workers. The country has decided to take 10,000 Bangladeshis initially into this long-closed labour market. However, before workers are sent to Malaysia, their skills will be ensured through training in line with the demands of employers there. The employers will then come to Bangladesh and select workers according to their needs. Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury had given this information earlier this week, in reply to a question from journalists at a press conference held at the Secretariat.
