Matarbari Power Plant Unit Under Maintenance, 600MW Supplied to National Grid

One unit of the Matarbari Thermal Power Plant in Cox’s Bazar is currently shut down for scheduled maintenance, reducing the plant’s electricity supply to the national grid amid high demand. The plant has two units with a combined generation capacity of 1,200 megawatts. While one unit is undergoing maintenance, the other is operating at full capacity and supplying around 600 megawatts to the national grid.

Mr. Sajjadur Rahman, administrative officer of Matarbari Thermal Power Plant, said each unit undergoes maintenance according to a scheduled plan. One unit is taken offline every few months for routine maintenance while the other continues production. He said the maintenance work is expected to take about another week. Once the work is completed, the shut unit will resume generation. The authorities said the plant’s full 1,200-megawatt generation capacity will be restored after both units return to operation.
