MV MBS Taisei Arrives at Payra Port with 62,100 Tonnes of Coal

A large ship carrying 62,100 tonnes of coal has arrived at the outer anchorage of Payra Port. The ship has a depth of 13.5 metres.

The Singapore-flagged ship, named MV MBS Taisei, has once again drawn attention to Payra Port’s ability to handle large ships and carry goods.

The ship arrived at the outer anchorage of Payra Port at around 8:00 pm on Tuesday (November 3). It anchored at a fixed location in the deep sea.

The ship is 199 metres long and 32 metres wide. It began its journey to Bangladesh from Indonesia’s Tarahan Port on October 24, carrying coal.

The coal will be used to produce electricity at the 1,320 MW Payra Power Plant. Officials hope that unloading the coal will help keep the plant’s fuel supply normal.

Payra Port Harbour Master Captain SM Sharifur Rahman said the large ship reached the outer anchorage safely on Tuesday night.

He said coal unloading was scheduled to begin on Wednesday. More than half of the coal will be unloaded first. The ship will then be taken to the terminal to unload the remaining coal.

He also said that more large ships would arrive at Payra Port one after another. This would help speed up the port’s goods transport activities.

He added that Payra Port would play an important role in the country’s economic growth and the expansion of trade.
