Over 67,000 cases disposed of in 13 working days

The High Court Division of the Supreme Court has disposed of more than 67,000 cases in the past 13 working days. Of these, 60,448 were old criminal miscellaneous cases and 6,907 were old writ petitions.

Supreme Court Public Relations Officer Mr. Shafiqul Islam disclosed the information yesterday, Saturday. He said 4,718 old criminal miscellaneous cases were disposed of by 13 criminal motion benches of the High Court Division on August 20. As a result, a total of 60,448 old criminal miscellaneous cases have been disposed of in 13 working days since the special initiative began. During the same period, a total of 67,355 cases, including old criminal miscellaneous cases and old writ petitions, were disposed of.

Following the directives of the Chief Justice, the criminal motion and writ motion benches of the High Court Division have been continuing the process of disposing of long-pending cases.

Under the special initiative, a large number of old cases are being disposed of successively with the aim of ensuring speedy justice for litigants, reducing case backlogs and increasing the efficiency of the judicial system. On May 7, judges of the criminal motion and writ motion benches of the High Court Division began the special initiative to dispose of long-pending cases, prioritising old criminal miscellaneous and old writ cases on designated days each week. Mr. Shafiqul Islam said the initiative to dispose of old cases will continue.
