Pre-Jumu’ah Khutbah: Vandalism, Arson and Destruction of State Property in the Name of Demanding Rights Are Unlawful

Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Mr. Mufti Abdul Malek said yesterday in his talk before the Friday sermon that everyone must unite to remove Fahisha and Munkar from society. He said all sinful acts, all haram acts and all impermissible acts are Munkar, and whoever does Munkar is a offender. He said sin and obscenity, which are Fahisha acts, must be stopped. He added that keeping the door of the house open will not stop them.
The Khatib said that even if people from our own clan get involved in Fahisha and Munkar, we must not show sympathy to them. He said discrimination must be removed from society. He said we must learn from the Seerah of the Prophet (peace be upon him) how to remove discrimination. He also said we must not betray the blood of the martyrs of the July movement.
Khatib of the well known Baitul Mamur Jame Mosque in Mirpur, Mr. Mufti Abdur Rahim Qasemi, said in his talk before the Friday sermon yesterday that rights must be won through justice. He said we must not do wrong ourselves while trying to right a wrong. He said breaking property, arson, looting, blocking roads to cause public suffering and destroying state property in the name of rights are unlawful.
He said not securing workers’ rights is a crime, and in the same way breaking and looting and destroying state property in the name of a movement is the same crime. He said it is the duty of owners and the government to secure workers’ fair rights and pay their due wages on time. In the same way, he said, it is the government’s duty to bring to justice those who break, loot and destroy state property in the name of rights.
He said the administration should look into whether someone wants to fish in troubled waters. He said it should also check whether anyone is creating instability in the country to serve some interest. He said it is the government’s duty to weigh all sides and take the right steps. He hopes that everyone will show restraint for the country’s interest, for the welfare of the people and to follow religious rules.
On securing workers’ fair rights, Allah the Almighty says, meaning: “O believers, stand firm for justice and be witnesses for Allah.” (Surah An Nisa, 4:135). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Pay the worker his wage before his sweat dries.” Source: Sunan Ibn Majah, 2443.
He said breaking things, looting and blocking roads in the name of rights and destroying the country’s property is completely haram. Allah says, “Do not cause corruption on the earth after it has been set in order.” (Surah Al A’raf, 7:56). He also says that Allah does not love corruption and disorder. (Surah Al Baqarah, 2:205).
In his Farewell Hajj sermon, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Surely your blood, your property and your honour are sacred to each other, just as this day, this month and this city are sacred.” (Sahih Bukhari, 67; Sahih Muslim, 1679). He prayed that Allah grants everyone the strength to do their own duties for the good of the country and the nation with patience and restraint. Ameen.
