President Urges Focus on Practical And Job-Oriented Education
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for greater emphasis on technology, engineering and technical education that can create employment opportunities both at home and abroad.
He made the call when a delegation led by Pabna University of Science and Technology Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Abul Hasnat Mohammad Shamim paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban on Tuesday. During the meeting, the university’s Vice-Chancellor briefed the President on the overall academic activities of Pabna University of Science and Technology.
The President said the quality of education must be improved to keep pace with the rapidly changing world. He also stressed the need to prepare students to compete successfully in the global arena.
He said the country must gradually move away from an education system that creates unemployment and does not equip students for employment. Along with making education more practical and job-oriented, students should be equipped with skills in technology, engineering and technical fields.
The President said the global job market is changing rapidly. Therefore, students should be given opportunities to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to apply their qualifications not only in Bangladesh but also in overseas labour markets. During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor formally invited the President to attend the university’s upcoming convocation as the Chancellor.
The President accepted the invitation and assured the delegation that he would attend the convocation. The President’s Military Secretary, Secretary and Press Secretary, as well as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer of Pabna University of Science and Technology, were present at the meeting.
