RAB Disbanded, SRB Bill Passed in Parliament

A bill to disband the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and form a new elite force called the Special Response Battalion (SRB) has been passed in the National Parliament.

The bill was passed by voice vote today, Thursday, around 5:30 PM during the third session of the 13th National Parliament.

Home Minister Mr. Salahuddin Ahmed moved the motion for the bill’s passage, which Speaker Mr. Mirza Hafiz Uddin Ahmed then put to a voice vote.

Since its formation, RAB had been operating under the Armed Police Battalion (Amendment) Act of 2003. Alongside the SRB Bill, the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) Bill-2026 has also already been placed before Parliament.
