Road Collapse Cuts Off Ramgati, Halts Traffic for 16 Days: 30,000 Suffer
About 30,000 people across four villages in Ramgati upazila, Lakshmipur, have been cut off from road access after a bridge connecting road broke down 16 days ago. The bridge is located in Rahmatpur, Boyarchar, in Ward 5 of Chargazi Union.
The Local Government Engineering Department, known as LGED, built the bridge in 2025. Heavy monsoon rain and unusually strong tidal currents from the Meghna River caused the connecting roads on both sides to collapse on September 9, halting all vehicle movement.
Around 30,000 residents in Boyarchar and nearby villages, including Mollagram, Central Bazar, and Tegachia Bazar, now face severe hardship. Students, mosque worshippers, and traders transporting agricultural goods and daily necessities are all affected.
Local residents Mr. Akkas Ali and Mr. Dulal Mia said their complaints to the local administration and LGED have gone unanswered. Ward member Mr. Sheikh Farid said he called the LGED office and administration repeatedly but got no response, and urged authorities to repair the road quickly.
