Selflessness, Not Self-Centredness, Is the Essence of Spirituality: Syed Saifuddin Maizbhandari

Serving humanity, helping the disadvantaged and putting the welfare of others above personal interests are fundamental teachings of the prophets and saints, said Syed Saifuddin Ahmad Maizbhandari, head of the Gausul Azam Maizbhandari shrine.

He said spirituality was not limited to personal worship but was reflected in compassion, social responsibility and helping others.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a Milad Mahfil held at Basir Bhandar Darbar Sharif in Chattogram on Monday (October 12), marking Eid-e-Miladunnabi and Fateha-e-Yazdaham.

Syed Saifuddin said the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encouraged people to rise above narrow-mindedness, jealousy and hatred and work for the greater good of humanity. Feeding the hungry, helping people in distress and promoting peace and harmony were true expressions of religious values, he said.

He added that making altruism a social commitment despite differences in opinions and beliefs could help reduce inequality and hostility and promote peaceful coexistence.

The event was presided over by Syed Shamsul Alam Al-Sanjari Maizbhandari, head of Basir Bhandar Darbar Sharif, and conducted by Hafiz Qari Maulana Mohammad Keramat Ali. District and Sessions Judge Syed Fakhrul Abedin Raihan Farhadabadi inaugurated the event, while Shahzada Maulana Syed Ahmadul Haque Maizbhandari delivered the main address.

Leaders of the Supreme Party, Islamic scholars and social workers attended as special speakers and guests.

Organised by Anjuman-e-Rahmania Moinia Maizbhandaria and the Moinia Youth Forum, the event drew a large number of devotees and local worshippers. The area resonated with zikr and religious chants.

Syed Saifuddin Ahmad Maizbhandari led the concluding prayer, seeking peace, prosperity and unity for the country, its people and the global Muslim community.
