Shah Rukh’s Single Proposal Brings Ed Sheeran to Bollywood Singing

Renowned British singer Ed Sheeran has lent his voice to a Bollywood song for the very first time. However, the collaboration was born without any long-term planning or formal proposal, stemming instead from his friendship with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and a meeting at his residence, Mannat.
Ed Sheeran has sung ‘Tu Mil Jaye’ for Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King. He is joined in the track by popular Indian playback singer Arijit Singh. Recently, Mr. Ed shared the story behind this collaboration by posting a video of the song’s recording session on social media. Mr. Ed revealed that during their very first meeting, the actor proposed that Mr. Ed sing for his next movie, even expressing his wish that it could mark Ed’s debut in Bollywood.
Later, in 2025, following the release of his song ‘Sapphire’ with Arijit Singh, Mr. Ed traveled to India. He visited Mannat with a request to specially feature Shah Rukh in the music video’s release. It was there that Shah Rukh introduced him to the music directing duo Sachin-Jigar. Interestingly, on the very night of their introduction, Mr. Ed wrote his part for ‘Tu Mil Jaye’ and recorded his vocals.
The British singer expressed his excitement about having Arijit Singh as his co-artist on the track. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh shared the video posted by Mr. Ed on his Instagram story to thank his friend, expressing special gratitude to Mr. Ed for singing the Hindi portion of the song.
Notably, ‘Tu Mil Jaye’ was released on November 2 to celebrate Shah Rukh Khan’s 61st birthday. Within the first 24 hours of its release, the song surpassed 60 million views across various platforms, with 36.3 million views on YouTube alone. This milestone sets a new record for the highest number of views in the first 24 hours for an Indian film song. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the movie King is scheduled to hit theaters on December 24.
