son of CoU teacher killed over iPhone snatching, one held

Police say someone killed a boy to snatch his phone. The victim was Ishiyat Shahriar Aprotim, age 13. He was the only son of Dr. Nahida Begum. She serves as Associate Professor in the Bangla Department at Comilla University (CoU). Police detained a young man named Tuhin on suspicion of involvement.
Rakibul Islam confirmed this information on Saturday (September 19) afternoon. He serves as Officer in Charge (OC) of Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station. Mr. Islam said police believe the phone was the motive for the murder. He said Tuhin remains in custody and questioning continues. He added that Aprotim’s body was sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Comilla Superintendent of Police (SP) Mr. Anisuzzaman also spoke about the case. He said multiple police teams are actively investigating. He said one person is currently in custody and being questioned. Mr. Anisuzzaman promised a thorough investigation once he leaves the scene.
He vowed his team will work nonstop until they catch the real killer. Meanwhile, law enforcement members collected evidence from the scene. They found this evidence where Aprotim’s body was recovered. Officials found the body earlier that same day, at noon.
The body was found in the Lalmai Sananda Hills area. This forested area sits next to the CoU campus. Aprotim studied in seventh grade at Border Guard Public School in Kotbari. His father, Mr. K M Feroz Shahriar, works as a businessman.
Aprotim left home on Friday (September 18) around three thirty in the afternoon. He took his mother’s iPhone to take photos with friends. He then disappeared and could not be found afterward. His father, Mr. K M Feroz Shahriar, filed a general diary (GD) at Comilla Sadar Dakshin Police Station.
Dr. Nahida Begum, the boy’s mother, searched many places for her son. She could not find him, so she posted his photo on Facebook. She wrote about him being missing and pleaded for help. She begged people to help bring her son back home.
Comilla-6 MP Mr. Monirul Haque Chowdhury arrived at the scene around quarter to three. He toured the location and then visited the grieving family. He went to offer his condolences at Aprotim’s home.
Mr. Chowdhury spoke to journalists at the scene. He said he feels ashamed and sorry as the area’s MP. He said he could not protect an innocent child. He said he will speak with the Prime Minister and Home Minister about the case.
He demanded the case be resolved within 90 days. He also ordered police to quickly arrest everyone involved in the killing. Dr. Nahida Begum, the victim’s mother, also spoke to reporters.
She said she only came to Comilla for work. She asked why this happened to her only son. She demanded answers and said she does not know how she will go on living now.
