Stay Alert to Religious Conspiracies in State Posts: Pir Sahib Fandauk Darbar Sharif
More than 90 percent of Bangladesh’s Muslims who follow Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jama’ah should remain alert and vigilant regarding whether any deviant group is engaging in conspiracies under the cover of religious identity and appearance while occupying important positions in the government, said Alhaj Maulana Mufti Syed Saleh Ahmad Mamun Al-Hosaini, Pir of the Fandauk Darbar Sharif and Central Amir of Bangladesh Anjuman-e-Khadimul Islam.
He made the remarks while presiding over and addressing as chief guest a conference organized by the traditional Fandauk Darbar Sharif on the occasion of the holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi (PBUH) at the Habiganj Press Club on Saturday (September 5).
The Pir Sahib said religion teaches peace, justice, humanity, and welfare for humankind. Therefore, people must remain aware so that no one can use religious identity or appearance to create division in society, incite unrest, or conspire against the state. Any malicious activity carried out in the name of religion, he said, must be resisted.
He further stated that despite opposition from Islamic scholars (Ulama) and Pir-Mashayekh, the current government appointed a follower of Salafi ideology—whom he described as belonging to a deviant sect—as State Minister for Religious Affairs. He alleged that a group is now attempting to sideline the observance of Eid-e-Miladunnabi (PBUH).
Expressing deep concern, he said that in a country where the majority of people are followers of Awliya, Pir-Mashayekh, and Sunni Islam, individuals opposed to Eid-e-Miladunnabi were seen participating in the Islamic Foundation’s Sirat-un-Nabi program. He also questioned why not a single Sunni-minded scholar had been included in the Foundation’s Governor Board. He warned that if the government fails to address such issues with greater awareness, it may face consequences in the future.
The Pir Sahib said that every citizen has a responsibility to safeguard the country’s independence, sovereignty, peace, and stability. Alongside respecting religious values, citizens should remain vigilant against any form of malicious activity in the interest of the state and society.
