Trump Threatens Jail for Leakers Amid US Weapons Shortage Reports

Trump expressed outrage over reports that the United States is running low on ammunition and missiles amid the Iran conflict. He called officials responsible for the leak “traitors” and warned they would face long prison sentences. CNN and The Washington Post reported that Trump criticised Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth at Camp David over shortages of guided missiles, including ATACMS, PrSM, Patriot and THAAD interceptors. The reports said Washington postponed military actions against Iran because of shortages. Trump and the White House denied the reports.

Trump wrote on Truth Social, “The United States has plenty of ammunition. More weapons and ammunition factories are being built than ever, and production is meeting demand.” Trump condemned the leak, saying, “The people leaking this kind of treasonous information are being identified. Long prison sentences will be pursued against them.” He said, “I am extremely pleased with the job Pete Hegseth is doing. These media reports are completely fake.”

Karoline Leavitt and a Pentagon spokesperson dismissed the reports as “entirely fictional” and “fake news.” Defence analysts said months of conflict have depleted US stockpiles of missiles. They warned rebuilding them could take years and strain Washington’s planning.
