UN General Assembly Session Begins: Trump-Mamdani Meeting Held in New York

High-level diplomatic engagements have kicked off in New York City ahead of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) summit, accompanied by unprecedented security measures. One of the most talked-about events of the current session is set to be the meeting between New York City Mayor Mr. Zohran Mamdani and U.S. President Mr. Donald Trump. On Monday, Mayor Mr. Mamdani welcomed President Mr. Trump to Gracie Mansion in New York. According to the Mayor’s Office, discussions focused on various issues concerning the interests of New York City and its residents. While this marks the third meeting between the two leaders, it is their first encounter at Gracie Mansion.

Meanwhile, a severe Gridlock Alert has been issued across New York City due to this massive gathering of global leaders. The NYPD and the U.S. Secret Service have jointly established a multi-layered security perimeter in Manhattan. Major thoroughfares surrounding UN Headquarters, including 42nd to 48th Streets, as well as First and Second Avenues, have been completely closed or restricted to traffic. Residents are required to present government-issued identification even to access their own neighborhoods.

On Tuesday, President Mr. Donald Trump is scheduled to address the UN Assembly. He is expected to highlight the ongoing US-Iran conflict, the risks of artificial intelligence (AI), and the international security situation. Other global figures, including the President of Iran, are also attending the summit. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to deliver his address on Thursday. Authorities have confirmed that there is currently no specific security threat. However, thousands of police officers, bomb squads, drones, and heavily armed units have been deployed to ensure the safety of the world leaders.
