US Ambassador Visits Country’s Largest Saidpur Railway Workshop
Mr. Brent T. Christensen, the US ambassador to Bangladesh, visited the historic Saidpur Railroad Workshop to conclude his three-day trip of northern Bangladesh. Additional District Magistrate Ms. Nuzhat Tasnim Aon and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ms. Farha Fateha Takmila were among the local civil and police administration officials who welcomed him at the station on Tuesday at 3:30 PM after he arrived from Parbatipur on the Nilphamari Express. The ambassador, who was traveling with his spouse, Ms. Dian Dow, and embassy representatives, noted on his first train ride in the nation, stating that the people of northern Bangladesh are incredibly kind and their excitement overwhelms him.
Divisional Superintendent Mr. Shah Sufi Nur Mohammad, Works Manager Md. Momtajul Islam, and many labor leaders greeted the Ambassador with flowers as he arrived at the scheduled workshop location. He visited several notable historical locations during the tour, such as the factory museum, the famous Railroad President Saloon that Queen Elizabeth II used, and buildings from the British era. In addition, he visited the conference room to speak with railroad authorities, planted seedlings on the land, and received a commemorative gift of an example of the Bangladesh Railroad by training management.
To ensure safety during the high-level diplomatic visit, extensive security measures were implemented around the railroad station and workshop areas. Ambassador Mr. Christensen completed his tour of the town by visiting the traditional Saidpur Chini Masjid, the Christian cemetery in Islambag, and the old Catholic Church in Sahebpara, all of which highlighted the region’s many historical and cultural landmarks.
At the conclusion of the journey, Ambassador Mr. Christensen remarked on his experiences, emphasizing long-standing global connections and praising the railroad system. He stated that he had finished his first train ride on the Bangladesh Railroad, describing it as an amazing experience and stating how much he loved traveling by train around the world. The ambassador emphasized diplomatic ties, saying that the US has been involved with the Bangladesh Railroad from its founding and is committed to supporting it in any future development initiatives.
