YouTuber Dhruv Rathee Detained Before Protest

Indian police in Gurugram detained YouTuber Dhruv Rathee before he could attend a planned protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Police detained him after he allegedly defied their instructions, Hindustan Times reported, citing police officials.
According to the report, several police teams visited Rathee’s residence at Kendriya Vihar Housing Society in Sector 56, Gurugram, ahead of the protest. A senior police officer said Rathee had been asked not to travel to Delhi to join the demonstration. He was also warned that he would be detained if he attempted to leave for the capital in defiance of the instructions.
The Kokroach Janata Party (CJP) has called the protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday (October 10), demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstration was organised amid discontent over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Authorities have tightened security across Delhi ahead of the protest. Police and central armed forces have been deployed in several areas, while restrictions have been imposed on metro and rail services. Entry and exit gates at 45 Delhi Metro stations are set to remain closed. Mobile internet services have also been temporarily suspended in designated areas.
More than 250 trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations between 4am and 2pm on Saturday have also been cancelled, the report said.
CJP founder Abhijit Deep said the party’s volunteers and supporters would proceed with the protest despite the restrictions. He also questioned the impact of transport restrictions on ordinary people.
