Zubaida Rahman Meets Melania Trump
Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, paid a courtesy call on US First Lady Melania Trump at an event held in New York on the occasion of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting took place on Tuesday (September 22) at The St. Regis New York in Manhattan.
Dr Zubaida Rahman attended the event at the invitation of Melania Trump. The event was organised by the White House under the “Fostering the Future Together” coalition, with first spouses and representatives from various countries taking part. The coalition currently includes 57 countries.
The event focused on children’s education, technology and digital skills development, as well as access to artificial intelligence (AI) and ensuring children’s safety online. According to the White House, one of the key objectives of the “Fostering the Future Together” initiative is to expand the use of safe and innovative technology for children, teachers and parents.
At this year’s event, Melania Trump announced the initiative’s next programmes and new technology partnerships. New partnerships with Adobe, Amazon, Google, Intel, Starlink and Zoom were announced. Through these partnerships, plans are in place to expand the use of technology to improve children’s education and digital skills.
The White House said that 45 first spouses and representatives from the technology sector of different countries attended the first global summit of “Fostering the Future Together” in Washington in March this year. The summit prioritised four areas: edtech, AI-powered education, online safety and digital skills.
At the New York event, Melania Trump said the initiative had been expanded to 57 countries. She also outlined plans to organise regional programmes under the initiative in the G20, ASEAN, Europe and the Caribbean region in 2026.
Meanwhile, heads of state and government and their representatives from various countries are currently in New York for the United Nations General Assembly session. Alongside the official programmes of the session, bilateral meetings and various sideline events are being held among leaders from different countries. As part of these activities, Melania Trump organised the event bringing together family members of world leaders.
