Poorly designed turns and reckless driving trigger over 40 major accidents in Gojaria stretch, injuring more than a hundred.
5 Hazardous U-Turns on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway Claim 25 Lives in 2026

Five U-turns along a 13-kilometer stretch of the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Gojaria have turned into deadly hazards, causing at least 40 to 50 major accidents this year alone. The accidents have resulted in 25 fatalities and left over 100 people severely injured or permanently disabled.
The high-risk U-turns are located at Tetaitola Hash Point, Anarpura, Bhaberchar Eidgah, Baushia Mana Bay Water Park, and Baushia Pakhir Mor. Officials and locals attribute the frequent collisions to narrow median cutouts, heavy traffic congestion, competitive and reckless driving, illegal three-wheelers, and a lack of warning signs or speed-reduction indicators.
Bhaberchar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mr. Moniruzzaman noted that enforcement and awareness campaigns are ongoing, but highlighted the urgent need to make the U-turns clearly visible to approaching drivers. Md. Al-Razi Leon, Deputy Assistant Engineer of the Narayanganj Road Division, stated that government authorities have initiated expansion and renovation work on the Gojaria section. Land filling is underway near the Mana Bay Water Park U-turn, with plans to consolidate and close one or two redundant turn points within four to five months.
