Renowned Theatre Personality Selim Collapses on Stage While Acting
Prominent Bangladeshi theater personality, actor, and director Mahmudul Islam Selim suddenly fell ill and collapsed on stage while performing in a theater production in Toronto, Canada. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The incident occurred at around 8:00 PM local time on October 31 at an auditorium in Toronto. Mr. Selim was performing the lead role in ‘Dewan Gazir Kissa,’ produced by Prachyo Protichyo. Midway through the play, he suddenly fell ill and collapsed on the stage.
According to eyewitness accounts, the theater personality suffered a heart attack. The auditorium was packed with audiences at the time of the incident. Seeing their beloved artist fall ill right before their eyes caused deep concern among the attendees. Following the spread of the news, anxiety has also gripped Bangladeshi expatriates, theater activists, and cultural enthusiasts living across various parts of Canada.
Meanwhile, Lovely Begum, the wife of Mahmudul Islam Selim, has sought prayers from everyone for his speedy recovery. Family members, colleagues, and well-wishers are all eagerly waiting for him to return to normal life in good health.
Mahmudul Islam Selim is a familiar face in Bangladesh’s theater, television, and film arenas. Alongside his long-standing association with Nagorik Natyangan, he has made significant contributions to acting and theatrical direction. Even while residing in Canada, this theater personality has continued his pursuit and practice of the Bengali language and culture.
