PM Announces Free Girls’ Education Up to Honors

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced that the government will provide free education for female students up to the Honors level, with the state bearing all expenses alongside merit-based scholarships. During National Fisheries Week 2026, he spoke in Pakundia on Sunday and stated that women make up half of the country’s population and cannot be left behind. This effort expands the benefits to higher education, building on the Khaleda Zia administration’s policy that made education free up to the Intermediate level.

Apart from women’s higher education, the PM announced a significant elementary education program for the nation. Every year, free textbooks, school uniforms, and school bags will be given to over 1.20 million students in approximately 65,000 government primary schools. The goal of this all-encompassing educational strategy is to assist kids from a young age, making sure that lack of resources never prevents them from receiving a basic education and developing.

Furthermore, the government is actively growing its Family Card program to promote social security and economic development. The program is expanding to include female heads of households, with the ambitious goal of covering all homes within the next five years and 4.1 million extra families this year. The total economic independence and decision-making responsibilities of women in the country are to be greatly improved by this strategic approach.
