Fatikchhari Administration Drives Out Illegal Sand Extraction After Daily Inqilab Report

Following media allegations and severe orders from Chattogram-2 Member of Parliament, Mr. Sarwar Alamgir, the Fatikchhari Upazila administration has initiated an effective crackdown on illegal sand extraction. MP Alamgir gave zero-tolerance warnings against drugs, terrorism, mob violence, and illegal sand mining during a recent coordination meeting. This encouraged fast administrative action to safeguard state resources and nearby water bodies from powerful syndicates.
In an effort to intensify these measures, a mobile court under the direction of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mr. Sayed Md. Ibrahim carried out a planned raid within the Karnaphuli Tea Garden in Lelang Union on Friday morning. Targeting illegal dredging operations near the Kutubchhari canal, the operation was successful in collecting 11,500 cubic feet of illegally extracted sand along with heavy gear and pipes that were quickly disassembled on the spot by officials.
An open public auction was held right away to dispose of the seized sand, and Tk 47,500 was deposited into the state treasury. Residents have expressed great hope that continuous administrative surveillance will permanently protect the Halda River and nearby canals, while Upazila officials stated that regular enforcement operations will continue to remove the criminal networks operating in the region.
