Malaysia cancels multiple-entry visa facility for 31 countries, including Bangladesh

Malaysia has restricted the multiple-entry visa (MEV) facility for citizens of 31 countries across South Asia and Africa, including Bangladesh. As a result, the opportunity for Bangladeshi tourists to obtain a one-year MEV on a visit visa has been reduced. For ordinary tourist travel, only a single-entry visa will now apply.

Malaysia’s Immigration Department has announced that, effective September 1, 2026, the MEV will no longer be issued broadly to citizens of all countries. Under the new policy, this visa will be granted only for specific travel purposes. These include business travel, medical treatment, combined air and sea travel, and wedding-related tourism. For ordinary travel or social visits, Bangladeshi tourists will need to apply for a single-entry visa.

This decision by the Immigration Department applies to visit visas or social travel. It has no bearing on employment-related visas or work permits for Bangladeshi or other foreign workers employed in Malaysia.The new policy was announced in a notice published on the website of Malaysia’s Immigration Department.
