Eid-e-Miladunnabi Holiday: Government Holiday Exemptions

The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi (PBUH) will be observed on August 26 (Wednesday), with a general government holiday across Bangladesh. The Islamic Foundation confirmed the date after the National Moon Sighting Committee meeting on August 13. The committee said the moon of Rabiul Awal 1448 AH was not sighted in Bangladesh on Thursday. Therefore, Safar will complete 30 days, and Rabiul Awal will begin on August 15.

However, the holiday will not apply to all government officials and employees. Employees involved in essential services will remain on duty. These include health and medical services, law enforcement, fire service, prisons and disaster management, as well as electricity, gas, water, telephone and internet services. Ports, airports, railways, public transport and emergency transport services will also operate as required. Bangladesh Bank will decide whether banks and financial institutions will remain closed or follow a specific schedule. The Supreme Court will separately decide on court holidays.
