Indian High Commissioner Meets Prime Minister’s Adviser on Public Administration

Discussions were held on increasing mutual engagement between Bangladesh and India and advancing bilateral relations. Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Public Administration Md. Ismail Jabiullah at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday. At the beginning of the meeting, Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi greeted the adviser with flowers and exchanged pleasantries. They later exchanged views on various aspects of Bangladesh-India bilateral relations.

At the meeting, Md. Ismail Jabiullah said Bangladesh and India are friendly neighboring countries. The two countries share a long border. Reducing border killings to zero is important for strengthening mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries.

He emphasized the need to reduce the trade deficit between the two countries and ensure Bangladesh’s fair share of the Ganges water. He also called for strengthening people-to-people relations between the two countries rather than focusing on ties with any particular political party.

Expressing hope that Bangladesh-India bilateral relations would become stronger, the adviser said relations between the two countries would advance further under the capable leadership of the current Indian high commissioner.

During the meeting, Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi highlighted the shared culture and historical ties between Bangladesh and India. He also mentioned the high demand for Bangladeshi hilsa in India.

Requesting that Bangladeshi officials be sent to India for training, the high commissioner said training and capacity-building programs between the public administrations of the two countries need to be resumed. He also expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries would be further expanded in their mutual interests.

Emphasizing the need to take bilateral relations further forward in the interests of the peoples of both countries, Dinesh Trivedi once again expressed his hope for another meeting. Relevant officials from the Indian High Commission were present at the meeting.
