Malaysia Rejects Claim of Recruiting 200,000 Workers

The Malaysian government has strongly denied rumors that during the next six months, some 200,000 workers will be hired from Bangladesh. Malaysian government spokesperson and communications minister Mr. Fahmi Fadzil reportedly said, ‘No such decision has been made by Malaysia, and this claim made public from Bangladesh does not represent a formal response from Dhaka’. This statement was reported by prominent Malaysian media outlets, such as Free Malaysia Today, Malaysiakini, and the New Straits Times. After yesterday’s Cabinet meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Mr. Fahmi answered a question from a journalist during an ordinary news conference.

The Minister of Communications stated to have communicated with the nation’s Minister of Human Resources about the issue, who assured him that the latest claims from a foreign media outlet about the hiring of 200,000 people weren’t considered an official decision. The Bangladeshi government does not consider a declaration made by a state minister at a meeting to be an official gazette or a final diplomatic decision.
