Malaysia Restricts Multiple-Entry Visa Facility for 31 Countries Including Bangladesh
Malaysia has restricted the multiple-entry visa (MEV) facility for citizens of 31 countries across South Asia and Africa, including Bangladesh. As a result, Bangladeshi tourists will have fewer opportunities to obtain a one-year MEV on visit visas. A single-entry visa will generally apply to ordinary tourist travel.
Malaysia’s Immigration Department said that, effective September 1, 2026, MEVs will no longer be issued broadly to citizens of all countries for visit purposes. Under the new policy, the visa will be available for specific travel purposes.
These include business, medical treatment, fly-and-cruise travel and wedding tourism. For ordinary travel or social visits, Bangladeshi tourists will generally have to apply for a single-entry visa.
The Immigration Department’s decision applies to visit visas or social visits. It does not affect employment-related visas or work permits for Bangladeshi or other foreign workers employed in Malaysia.
The new policy was announced in a notice published on the Malaysian Immigration Department’s website.
