Mysterious Death of Ex-Pilot Tahsif Reflects Alarmingly on Law and Order
The Bangladesh Nezame Islam Party has expressed deep concern and anger over the unnatural death of M Tahsif Souri, a former Flight Lieutenant of the Bangladesh Air Force. The party’s leaders prayed for the forgiveness of his departed soul while extending their profound condolences to the bereaved family. They highlighted that the recovery of the former officer’s body from the Turag River in Dhaka, just a day after he went missing, is extremely alarming and mysterious, emphasizing that public doubts will persist until the true cause behind the incident is fully uncovered.
In a joint statement issued on Thursday, acting Amir Maulana Abdul Qayyum Subhani and Secretary General Maulana Musa Bin Izhar noted that Mr. Tahsif’s name was widely discussed regarding a prominent video recorded during Sheikh Hasina’s departure from the country. However, they stressed that whether his death is linked to that incident remains unproven. They stated, ‘Instead of relying on speculative conclusions, it is imperative to reveal the real cause of death to the public through an independent, neutral, and credible investigation’.
The leaders further voiced strong concern over the deteriorating law and order situation, pointing out that recent incidents of murder, abduction, mugging, and mysterious deaths have significantly heightened public security anxieties. They warned that the disappearance and subsequent death of a former military officer raise serious questions regarding civic safety. They emphasized that a swift and impartial probe must clarify whether Mr. Tahsif’s death was accidental, natural, or the result of a criminal act, adding that any attempt to impose a narrative beforehand would only deepen public mistrust.
To ensure justice, the party leaders demanded an immediate, transparent investigation, the publication of the complete autopsy report, and a thorough probe into Mr. Tahsif’s final movements and digital communications. They insisted that relevant CCTV footage must be preserved and that protective measures should be taken to ensure his family’s safety. They also asserted that if the involvement of any individual or influential entity is discovered, they must be brought to justice regardless of their identity or position.
Finally, the Nezame Islam Party urged the authorities to provide regular and credible updates to the nation regarding the progress of the investigation without any procrastination. They concluded that the truth must be uncovered within the shortest possible time through a credible inquiry. They cautioned that if evidence of a crime is found, those responsible must be held accountable; otherwise, the government and the administration cannot evade responsibility for failing to ensure civic security.
