Over 200 Mobile Phones Stolen During ‘Ityadi’ Shooting

Hundreds of spectators fell victim to a mobile-theft syndicate during the recording of the popular magazine show ‘Ityadi’ at the Nandaildighi College ground in Kalai upazila. Taking advantage of the massive gathering, thieves allegedly stole more than 200 mobile phones from audience members’ pockets and bags. Police caught a man named Golam Ratan red-handed in connection with the incident, prompting an immediate law enforcement response.

The event, planned and directed by renowned host Hanif Sanket, drew an eager crowd of around 10,000 people from Joypurhat and surrounding areas starting Saturday morning. To ensure safety, the district administration and police implemented special security measures, deploying over 250 police personnel alongside intelligence representatives, 50 scouts, and 100 local volunteers across the venue.

Despite the extensive security arrangements, professional pickpocketing syndicates systematically targeted attendees in the massive crowd. Many victims remained completely unaware of the thefts while the show was underway and only realized their losses after the event concluded. Consequently, numerous affected spectators rushed to the local police station to report their stolen devices.

Imayedul Jahedi, Inspector (Investigation) of Kalai Police Station, said around 70 to 80 victims came to lodge verbal complaints, while police initially estimated that the total number of stolen phones could exceed two hundred. The detained suspect, Golam Ratan, is the son of Golam Rabbani from the Bhadsa area of Joypurhat Sadar upazila. The police official confirmed that necessary legal action will follow upon receiving formal written complaints.
