Putul Lacked Required Qualifications For The Role: State Minister for Foreign
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Humayun Kabir has questioned the recruitment process of Ms. Saima Wazed Putul as the former regional director for the World Health Organization (WHO) Southeast Asia region. During a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kabir asserted that Ms. Putul lacked the required qualifications for the post, claiming the selection process was flawed and that a stench of corruption emanated from it. Amid these criticisms, he simultaneously announced Bangladesh’s official decision to support the Maldivian candidate in the upcoming WHO election, signaling a definitive shift in the country’s diplomatic alignment within international health bodies.
Shifting focus to upcoming international engagements, the State Minister detailed the PM’s scheduled departure for the United States on September 21 to attend the United Nations General Assembly session. He stated that the visit will highlight Bangladesh’s new vision and priorities on the global stage through multiple high-level bilateral meetings with world leaders and crucial sideline discussions centered on pressing national interests. Particular emphasis will be placed on resolving the protracted Rohingya crisis, with a special sideline meeting organized to address the humanitarian emergency and secure renewed global commitments.
Addressing regional relations and economic recovery, Mr. Kabir emphasized that Dhaka intends to build a new and effective relationship with India, noting that ongoing border killings and related complications will be resolved strictly through diplomatic channels and constructive dialogue. Furthermore, addressing domestic economic concerns, the State Minister confirmed that formal efforts have already been initiated to repatriate money laundered abroad, with the government actively seeking international cooperation to recover illegally trafficked funds.
