Record 1.3 Million SSC Re-evaluation Applications submitted

A record 1.3 million applications have been submitted for the re-evaluation of answer scripts from this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations, following the lowest pass rate recorded in the past 19 years.

Education and Primary Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milon said the unprecedented number of applications has created a major challenge for education boards.

“It appears that everyone wants their answer scripts reviewed. Even students who obtained GPA-5 or Golden A+ are applying because marks can add value to future academic pursuits,” he told reporters after the QS Bangladesh Forum 2026 at a hotel in Dhaka on Monday.

The minister said the government is considering a new policy to determine which answer scripts will qualify for re-evaluation, as reviewing such a large number of scripts is extremely difficult.

Under the existing system, review applications only verify whether all answers were marked, totals were calculated correctly, marks were transferred accurately to the cover page or OMR sheet, and the OMR circles were filled correctly. Answer scripts are not re-assessed academically.

However, the government is now considering a new process under which complete answer scripts could be reassessed by a third examiner.

Prof. Akhtaruzzaman, Chairman of the Dhaka Education Board and President of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, said more than 1.3 million applications had been received before the application deadline.

Applications for SSC and equivalent examination result reviews were accepted online from August 11 to 17.

When announcing the 2026 SSC results on August 10, Dr. Milon said answer scripts would be re-evaluated if students were found to have received incorrect marks or been denied marks they deserved. He also announced plans to form a review committee to ensure students receive their rightful scores.

The minister noted that previous review procedures focused mainly on tabulation checks, with no provision for reassessing whether examiners had awarded marks correctly. The revised framework would, for the first time, allow for a fuller academic re-evaluation of answer scripts.
