Sarsina Pir urges PM to be cautious over aqeedah
Sarsina Darbar Sharif Pir Saheb Alhaj Hazrat Maulana Shah Abu Nasr Nesaruddin Ahmad Hossain has expressed deep concern and protest over reports that Gaibandha-4 MP Mohammad Shamim Kaisar Lincoln may be appointed state minister for religious affairs. In a statement, the Sarsina Pir Saheb urged the prime minister to consider the religious views, aqeedah and position on the country’s established madhhab tradition of anyone appointed to the important and sensitive Ministry of Religious Affairs.
He said, “Under no circumstances should anyone opposed to madhhab and aqeedah be given an important position in the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The Tawhidi people of this country are highly conscious of protecting their faith, aqeedah, religion and ideals. Therefore, the religious sentiments and aqeedah-related concerns of the people must be given due importance in state decisions.”
Addressing the prime minister, the Sarsina Pir Saheb further said, “You should be cautious about this matter. The Tawhidi people voted for you not merely to bring you to power, but in the hope that you would protect their faith, aqeedah, religion and ideals. Therefore, the aspirations behind the people’s votes must be properly reflected in every aspect of state governance.”
He said the Ministry of Religious Affairs is not merely an administrative ministry, as it deals with important religious matters concerning the country’s mosques, madrasas, religious institutions, Hajj management and waqf, among others. Therefore, the ministry should be placed in the hands of someone who respects the aqeedah, beliefs and religious traditions of the country’s scholars, pirs, religious leaders and practising Muslims.
The Sarsina Pir Saheb urged the government to exercise the utmost caution in selecting the person responsible for the Ministry of Religious Affairs in the interest of peace, religious harmony and the protection of faith and aqeedah. He also expressed hope that the prime minister would consider the expectations of the Tawhidi people and religious communities and make an appropriate decision.
