Signals Withdrawn at 4 Maritime Ports; Storm Forecast with 60 km/h Winds in 3 Regions

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has advised the country’s four maritime ports to lower the local cautionary signal to number 3. However, squally weather with wind speeds of up to 60 km/h, accompanied by rain or thundershowers, is expected over the Khulna, Jashore, and Kushtia regions.

According to a maritime weather bulletin issued on Thursday, 29 October, and signed by meteorologist A.K.M. Nazmul Hoque, maritime ports in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been asked to lower the warning signals. The alert stated that squally winds are no longer likely over the North Bay and adjacent coastal areas of Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, the BMD has issued a rain and storm forecast for three regions in southwestern Bangladesh. Temporary gusty or squally winds blowing from the south or south-southeast at speeds of 45 to 60 km/h, along with rain or thundershowers, are likely over the Khulna, Jashore, and Kushtia regions by 6:00 PM on Thursday.

Due to the potential adverse weather, river ports in these three regions have been advised to hoist cautionary signal number 1. This forecast remains effective until 6:00 PM on Thursday. Lowering warning signals from maritime ports does not mean the risk of storms has cleared across the entire country. As the meteorological department issues separate forecasts for maritime and river ports, vessel operators are advised to follow the latest weather alerts specific to their respective areas.
