Teesta Master Plan Work to Begin Next Year

The first meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Water Resources of the 13th National Parliament was held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday. The meeting focused on riverbank protection, renewal of the Ganges Water Sharing Treaty at Farakka, and progress on the Teesta project. The meeting was chaired by committee chairman and MP Mohammad Shafiqul Haque Milon. It was informed that the Padma Barrage Project has already been approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), while the main work under the much-discussed Teesta Master Plan is expected to begin next year. The meeting was also informed that the Ministry of Water Resources currently has 93 development projects underway, with Tk 7,832.80 crore allocated for them in the 2026–27 fiscal year.
