Thousands of Bodies Trapped Under Rubble: Gaza Faces Unprecedented Humanitarian Disaster

The Gaza Strip’s government media office has warned that thousands of bodies trapped under rubble in buildings destroyed by Israeli airstrikes are impossible to recover, calling it an “unprecedented humanitarian disaster.”

Ismail al-Thawabta, Director General of the Media Office, said in a press release that the people of Gaza are suffering extreme repercussions and serious consequences due to the large number of bodies lying decomposed under the collapsed buildings and rubble.

He added that the ongoing Israeli blockade has prevented heavy machinery and equipment needed for rescue work from entering Gaza, leaving the crisis beyond the capabilities of local rescue teams.

As an example of the critical situation, Ismail al-Thawabta cited the attack on the ‘Engineers Building’ located south of the Nuseirat refugee camp on October 31, 2023. While 106 bodies have been recovered from there so far, hundreds of bodies are still trapped under the rubble and have not been recovered.
