Trump to Host Xi Jinping with Special State Honors, Both First Ladies to Attend

The Trump administration has arranged special state honors for Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to the United States. During the three-day visit, preparations have been made to welcome Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, with a formal reception, military honors, a state dinner and various other events.

Xi Jinping will stay in the United States from September 23 to 25. On September 24, US President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, will formally welcome the Chinese president and Peng Liyuan at the White House. Before that, Trump is scheduled to welcome Mr. Xi and Ms. Peng at Joint Base Andrews in Washington on September 23.

The White House said 479 members of various branches of the US armed forces will participate in the formal reception ceremony. Alongside military honors, a parade and various ceremonial events, a B-2 bomber and four F-22 fighter jets are scheduled to conduct a flyover.

The two first ladies will also play an important role in the cultural events during the visit. Following the formal reception, Melania Trump and Peng Liyuan will visit the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art. The visit will highlight Asian art and cultural exchanges between the United States and China.

On the evening of September 24, Mr. Trump and Ms. Melania will host a state dinner at the White House in honor of Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan. The following morning, the two couples are scheduled to attend a tea gathering before visiting the National Archives. The visit will officially conclude there.

Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan are returning to the White House after more than a decade. Reuters reported that during the visit, Mr. Xi and Mr. Trump are expected to discuss various important issues concerning relations between the two countries.
