The selection of young entrepreneurs in Manikganj under Bangladesh Bank’s special ‘Udyog’ programme will begin tomorrow (November 8). The programme aims to create young entrepreneurs and jobs at the local level.

The three-day selection process will run from November 8 to November 10. Young applicants from different upazilas of the district will be interviewed and assessed during this period. Selected applicants will receive final funding.

Top business leaders, industrialists and corporate figures of the country will take part as evaluators in the selection process.

According to Bangladesh Bank sources, the selection will be held at the central bank’s headquarters in Motijheel, Dhaka. The main goal of the programme is to find promising entrepreneurs from local areas, assess their business plans and provide them with the necessary funding.

The evaluators this time include Apex Footwear Limited Managing Director Syed Nasim Manzur, Mohammadi Group Chairman Rubana Huq, Transcom Group Chief Executive Officer Simin Rahman, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan, BKMEA Executive President Fazle Shamim Ehsan, former Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh CEO Mohammad Naser Ezaz Bijoy, Anondorokom Group founder Mahmudul Hasan Sohag and Pathao Limited CEO Fahim Ahmed.

The full name of the ‘Udyog’ programme is “Upazila-Driven Youth Opportunity for Growth.” The programme aims to find, identify, assess and fund young entrepreneurs at the upazila level. Through this plan, Bangladesh Bank aims to create entrepreneurs in remote areas of the country.

According to central bank sources, the programme received a strong response in the first eight districts. Its coverage has therefore been expanded. Applications and the search for young entrepreneurs in the remaining 56 districts began on November 1 and will continue until November 30.

Through the programme, Bangladesh Bank wants to create opportunities for young people from all districts to become entrepreneurs.

The programme is not only about providing funds. It also focuses on encouraging young people at the local level to start businesses and use their potential. The central bank expects that new businesses at the local level will create more jobs and increase economic activity.

Bangladesh Bank hopes the programme will create a new group of entrepreneurs in remote areas through upazila-based selection and special funding. It is expected to help young people become self-reliant, develop local economies, create new jobs and contribute to overall economic growth.
