Anti-Muslim Extremist Protest Near 9/11 Memorial Event
Far-right groups staged an anti-Muslim protest surrounding the 25th-anniversary commemoration of the September 11 attacks in New York City. Led by far-right activist Jake Lang, the demonstrators marched from City Hall toward the 9/11 Memorial. Upon reaching near Ground Zero, tensions and clashes erupted with counter-protesters, leading police to detain several individuals from both sides.
The protesters named the event the ‘Crusader March’. Chants such as ‘Expel all Muslims’ and ‘We love ICE’ were raised during the march. The protest was also organized in opposition to New York City Mayor Mr. Zohran Mamdani’s participation in the 9/11 memorial service. Upon arriving near Ground Zero, the protesters were met by counter-protesters. As the situation grew heated, police intervened. Various reports confirmed the detention or arrest of individuals from both factions.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mike Massaroli, son of 9/11 victim Mr. Michael Massaroli, delivered the closing remarks at the annual reading of the names of those killed in the attack. He urged politicians and the general public not to exploit the tragic events of 9/11 to spread hatred against Muslims. Mr. Mike Massaroli stated that for the past 25 years, he has witnessed certain individuals use the 9/11 attacks to spread hatred against Muslims and people of different appearances. According to him, such actions show no respect for those killed in the attacks.
On September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks by al-Qaeda on the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, and in Pennsylvania claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people. On the 25th anniversary of the attacks, commemorative events were held in New York and various locations across the United States.
