Asif Mahmud Reflects the Archetype of Corruption, Says Rashed Khan
Mr. Rashed Khan, the Prime Minister’s political assistant, sharply criticized former interim government adviser and National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Mr. Asif Mahmud in a verified Facebook post on Monday. Labeling Mr. Mahmud the ‘prince of corruption,’ Mr. Khan deployed the proverb, ‘The thief’s mother has a loud voice,’ to mock his defensive stance amid mounting public controversies and political scrutiny.
Mr. Khan alleged that during the interim administration, Mr. Mahmud actively shielded Awami League businessmen, ‘dummy MPs,’ and specific party office-bearers. He claimed he issued direct warnings to Mr. Mahmud multiple times regarding these actions, but his admonitions were completely ignored, adding that leadership circles within the NCP were fully aware of the situation.
According to Mr. Khan, when these allegations were raised with top NCP figures, they distanced themselves by declaring that ‘Asif is no one to us!’ He further claimed that senior figures like Mr. Nahid Islam repeatedly told the media that student advisers held no formal ties to the party to evade responsibility for ongoing controversies.
Mr. Khan concluded by questioning why prominent leaders like Mr. Nahid Islam and Mr. Akhtar Hossain refuse to defend Mr. Mahmud publicly, asserting that their silence stems from firsthand knowledge of his actions. He also alleged that Mr. Mahmud distributed massive sums of money, prompting another unnamed adviser to remark on the impossibility of funding such amounts through official salaries alone.
