Urge To Fast-Track Rooppur Construction For Prompt Power Supply

Bangladesh and Russia have agreed to accelerate the construction work of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant to supply electricity to the national grid at the earliest. The discussion took place during a bilateral meeting between Science and Technology Minister Mr. Fakir Mahbub Anam and Rosatom Director General Mr. Alexey Likhachev on the sidelines of the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria.

The meeting featured detailed discussions on the latest progress of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project and the measures needed to ensure power supply to the national grid as quickly as possible. Both sides agreed to accelerate the project’s construction in line with the target schedule to commence electricity generation swiftly.

The Science and Technology Minister emphasized completing the remaining work of the project promptly while maintaining international nuclear standards and the highest level of safety. Meanwhile, the Director General of Rosatom assured the continuation of necessary technical and strategic support for the project’s implementation.

Following the meeting, a symbolic exchange of souvenirs took place between Science and Technology Minister Mr. Fakir Mahbub Anam and Rosatom Director General Mr. Alexey Likhachev as a token of the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Russia. Members of the delegations from both countries were present at the meeting. Held in a cordial atmosphere, the meeting reaffirmed the commitment to rapidly advance the successful implementation of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
