Soon TB Hospital to be Converted into National Tuberculosis Control Institute: Bobby Hajjaj
The 250-bed TB Hospital in Shyamoli, Dhaka, is set to be upgraded into the National Tuberculosis Institute and Hospital to significantly expand treatment, control, diagnosis, research, and training facilities. State Minister for Primary and Mass Education and Hospital Management Committee President Mr. Bobby Hajjaj announced this pivotal initiative while serving as the chief guest at a hospital management committee meeting held in the conference room on Monday. He emphasized that necessary steps are underway to transform the institution into a modern, integrated, and effective center for tuberculosis control. To tackle operational bottlenecks, the State Minister stated that immediate initiatives will be taken to promptly fill vacant posts for doctors, officials, and staff.
Addressing the critical manpower shortage, Mr. Bobby Hajjaj noted that resolving this crisis is essential for improving service quality and accelerating daily hospital activities. Necessary measures will be implemented in direct consultation with the Ministry of Health to fill open positions swiftly, while continuous support will be maintained to guarantee uninterrupted medical care for patients. Furthermore, he revealed plans to construct a brand new 500-bed building to drastically expand the hospital’s service scope and overall capacity. During the meeting, he also directed relevant local authorities to clear the footpath in front of the hospital from illegal encroachments to ensure smooth and safe movement for patients and the general public.
Before the meeting, the State Minister inspected various wards, observed overall management, and directly inquired about patient treatment services. He spoke extensively with patients and their attendants to listen to their problems and expectations, issuing strict directives to the authorities to resolve them promptly. Later, during an exchange of views with doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers, he urged them to discharge their duties with utmost responsibility and sincerity. He gathered vital information regarding hospital cleanliness, patient amenities, medicine supply, and treatment activities, stressing that humane and responsible behavior must be shown to every individual seeking care at government facilities.
Concluding his visit, Mr. Bobby Hajjaj strongly emphasized that hospital authorities must accord top priority to ensuring patients never face any form of harassment. The high-level meeting was presided over by the hospital’s Member Secretary and Deputy Director, Dr. Ayesha Akhter. It was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Directorate General of Health Services, the Department of Social Services, and members of the hospital management committee alongside doctors, officials, and staff.
