Unauthorised auto-rickshaws banned on major city roads: Home minister

Home Minister Mr. Salauddin Ahmed has said that the operation of unauthorised battery-run auto-rickshaws on the major roads of the capital has been stopped.

He said, “The government has already taken various measures to bring the operation of auto-rickshaws under discipline. Drives against irregularities, including illegal charging points, are also ongoing.”

The Home Minister made the remarks while responding to a question in the Jatiya Sangsad today (Monday, September 7). The parliamentary session began at 3pm with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram in the chair.

Mr. Salauddin Ahmed said, “The process of formulating a policy to regulate the operation of battery-run auto-rickshaws is underway. Once the policy is finalised, arrangements will soon be made to register the rickshaw numbers and their drivers.”

He said, “Rules and policies to control unregulated battery-run auto-rickshaws are fully prepared. They will be implemented soon with certain conditions, taking various issues, including employment and the environment, into consideration. The use of environmentally friendly batteries is also being considered.”
